Masham Town Hall. For better preventing the horrid crime of murder: gibbets, dissection & the bodies of executed criminals. Dr Sarah Tarlow. Dr Sarah tarlow is senior lecturer in Archaelogy at Leicester University. between the sixteenth & the nineteenth century people convicted of particularly serious crimes could be sentenced not only to death but also to various post-mortem punishments, principally public dissection by by anatomists or being displayed in a gibbet cage. This talk will look some interesting, & rather goulish, archaelogical & historic evidence for the treatment of the criminal corpse. £3.00 is charged for non-members which includes refreshments.
