Tour de Yorkshire via Masham

Tour de Yorkshire cycle race takes place from Thursday 3rd-Sunday 6th May 2018 and the cyclists will “fly” through the middle of Masham on Sunday 6th – Stage 4 of the race. The Men’s race is expected in Masham at around 3pm, in the middle of a fearsome route from Halifax to Leeds via Kettlewell and Middleham.
We have an expanded market and farmers market in the Market Place with a Big Screen showing the race in full. Attractions include a Pop-Up Carnival with West Indian inspired costumes and music including steel bands, traction engine and a static bike competition. Masham’s cafes and pubs are offering outdoor food and local ales, hot drinks and picnic tables and the Church and Chapel are open for exploration and contemplation. Handmade craft fair and a local history exhibition in the Town Hall. Car Boot Sale on the Rec in the morning and the first Masham Women’s Cricket match for over 25 years in the afternoon. Family Fun Day organised by Kell Bank Primary School at Bellfield (HG4 4ER) on the cycle route. In the evening, the Chris Berry Band are playing favourites and classics in the Market Place (Town Hall if wet).
Black Sheep Brewery are the official beer of the TdY and there will be a “Black Sheep Straight” sprint as part of the race on Thorpe Road, with the winner receiving their height in cases of ale. www.blacksheepbrewery.com
The publicity “caravane” is due in Masham at 1.25pm. There is a rolling roadblock a few minutes either side of the riders – the the route will be closed to traffic from around 2.30-3.45pm.
Visitor parking is available on the Shooting Holme, HG4 4DS (by Masham Bridge) for a suggested £5 charitable donation in aid of Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Wild Willy Barrett’s French Connection

Keep the Faith – Northern Soul band featuring Sarah Collins

We are delighted to welcome Sarah Collins and nine-piece Northern Soul band Keep the Faith back to the town hall after their rapturously received sold-out gig last year.
Sarah Collins is a firm favourite on today’s Northern Soul scene with many appearances at UK and European festivals and events, and a YouTube channel with thousands of subscribers. Sarah’s musical career was derailed by a brain tumour, which was successfully removed in 2012. After that, she felt the need to keep singing, and started posting videos of her singing Northern Soul covers to backing tracks on YouTube. She now has over a million views! With a nine-piece band, Keep the Faith play authentic arrangements of the original songs. Keep The Faith provide a live Northern Soul experience that is second to none.
