National Swift Awareness Week

This is happening again at the end of June, and to mark this we are having a Market Stall in Masham Markek on the 22nd June. We are also organising a Children’s Art Competition with Swifts as its theme; the winning art works will be displayed on the stall. There will be a Swift Quiz for adults and children, and a Treasure Hunt round Masham. One evening during the week we will be leading a Swift Walk round Masham, to look at where these wonderful birds are nesting, and the nest boxes we have put up to help them find safe places to nest. Carol Archer

Carol is a local artist, living in Catterick Village. She has been painting for many years, starting in oil and then moving onto watercolours. She enjoys both mediums and goes out with a local walking group with camera at the ready to get inspiration for her landscape paintings. She has painted pictures of Masham and local Dales views to exhibit at the Blue Light Gallery. Carol also does commissions and sells at Country Shows and Craft Fairs.

Lorraine Garlick – Bound Together

Bound together is a group of like-minded individuals sharing an artistic philosophy with the desire to create forms in a number of materials. They came together as a group guided by the expertise and vision of Joan Newell – Number 6 Studio Gallery in Pateley Bridge. The processes employed involves the effects of dyes, paint, inks, stitch, print, rust and wax on paper and fabric. As book makers, they choose to display their work in forms as diverse as concertina to Coptic stitched, codex forms to boxes and slipcases. They are interested in pursuing the development of artist’s books; using the form to visually express thoughts, meaning and ideas.

John Coghlan’s Quo

Original Status Quo drummer John Coghlan, with his great band, brings you a night of vintage Quo from the Quo glory years of 1962-81 when he performed with them.
These years saw a string of legendary hits including Caroline, Down Down, Roll Over Lay Down, Rockin’ All Over the World, Whatever You Want, What You’re Proposing and so many more – Quo ended up with 22 UK top ten singles and 66 UK chart singles, ninth in the all time list. Since leaving Status Quo, John has worked with musicians inclusing Phil Lynott, Roy Wood, Chas Hodges Jimi Hendrix’s bassist Noel Redding and Eric Bell (ex-Thin Lizzy). During the late nineties John Coghlan’s Quo was formed and through various line-ups has enjoyed regular gigs all over the UK and Europe. The current band consists of John on drums, with Mick Hughes on guitar and vocals, Rick Chase on bass and vocals, and Rick Abbs on guitar and vocals.
