Lucy Scott PaulLucy Scott Paul runs award winning Bah Humbugs Sweet Shop in Masham’s market square. They stock over 400 different sweets and sweet gifts which are also available via their online sweet shop – www.bahhumbugs.com. Here she answers our Live Like A Local questions…..

1. Name Lucy Scott Paul

2. How long have you lived in Masham? 34 Years

3. Three things you’d recommend a visitor to do in Masham & surrounding area:-

  • Take a look in all the independent businesses in & around the town
  • Go for a walk along the River Ure up to The Fisherman’s Hut & around Marfield Wetlands
  • Have an all day breakfast at Bordar House Teas to keep you fuelled for the walk above!

4. What’s your favourite thing to do, or place to visit around Masham? I love to go down to the rec on a Saturday afternoon in the Summer time when the children can play in the fantastic park that we have there. There’s always a game of cricket going on with plenty of people watching, and the tennis courts are usually full of people trying to be the next Andy Murray or female equivalent. There’s a great atmosphere, especially when the sun is shining.

5. What’s your favourite shop in or around Masham? Obviously I would say it’s Bah Humbugs… 😉 But apart from promoting my own business, I love Corks & Cases – it was set up by friends of ours a few years ago and is now run by a Carol & Derek who have a fantastic knowledge of wine. There’s always some to taste & they are very competitively priced – and they’re part of the Make The Most of Masham scheme!

6. Where’s your favourite place to eat in or around Masham? Bordar House Teas for a Full Anglais (biased as my mum runs it!), and it would be either Vennell’s or Samuels at  Swinton Park for that special occasion.

7. Did you know………? Our sweet hampers have been enjoyed by the likes of Robbie Williams and David Cameron. We nearly dropped a sweet jar when we took the order for Robbie Williams to be shipped to his recording studio in LA!
