What smashing individuals we have in our community! Volunteers week this week means we’re shouting about all the brilliant things that go on in and around Masham thanks to the good will of people in our community. You’re all awesome!
MCO’s activities are thanks to 60 volunteers who help run the strollers walking group, our library, front desk services (from tourism info, wellbeing support and digital help to advocacy, signposting and connecting people), as well as behind the scenes communication and campaigns. Thanks to volunteers and our ongoing fundraising we can provide a home for Acorns Preschool at a reduced rate and MIND in Harrogate and Masham Parish Council can operate from our building too. Swinton Estate kindly hosted us this week to say thank you to our brilliant team of volunteers with tea and scones as we let them have the afternoon off!
It’s not just MCO volunteers that make our community such a fantastic place to be! So many individuals help neighbours, there are 80+ community groups that operate locally thanks to volunteers such as Litter Busters, Masham Foodshare, sports clubs, kids groups, young farmers, WIs, church activities, the Town and Village Halls, Parish Councils and major events reply on volunteers, attracting thousands of visitors each year such as the Steam Rally, Sheep Fair and Long Course Weekend…so much great stuff happens thanks to volunteers!
You all deserve a huge shout out. Thank you everyone, you make Mashamshire a better place to live, work and visit!
Our community has a fantastic sense of social responsibility and pride. Small places provide opportunities to create positive change through more direct connections – everybody is somebody and anything is possible.
Someone once told me, at a time of difficulty in their life, “I’m lucky, I have Masham”. I think that says it all. Everyone in our community has a name, a story and a voice. MCO as the heart and hub of our community (alongside so many others), connect, empower and support people to make positive change.
