Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar

Masham Town Hall, Little Market Place, Masham
19:30

Following their triumphant appearance at the final Masham Arts Festival, we are delighted to welcome back two-time BBC Folk Award winning duo Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar to the town hall.
Guitarist Greg and All Ireland Fiddle Champion Ciaran met in 2011. Their debut album, The Queen’s Lover, was released in 2012 and became an instant success. In January 2013, while still at university (Greg) and school (Ciaran), the pair picked up the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award. They then received the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Horizon Award for Breakthrough Act in 2014, and were nominated for Best Duo in 2015.
Numerous tours followed as the duo developed and honed their stage craft, becoming one of the most sought after young acts on the English Folk Scene. They have appeared throughout the country, including spots at the Cambridge Folk Festival and Fairport’s Cropredy Convention, and have played live on Mark Radcliffe’s BBC Radio 2 Folk Show. Their current album “Utopia and Wasteland” came out in 2018.
As well as these bona fides, Greg and Ciaran have a delightful stage presence, mixing charm and an easy wit with impressive force and emotion when the music calls for it.
