LONG COURSE WEEKEND YORKSHIRE

Masham Town Hall, Little Market Place, Masham
8:00

LCW Yorkshire, scheduled for September 6th to 8th, 2024, offers a dynamic three-day multisport experience. The event features swimming on Friday, cycling on Saturday, and running
on Sunday, with various distances available each day. Participants can opt to compete in one discipline or challenge themselves across all three days, aiming for the prestigious 4th LCW
medal awarded during a special ceremony on the final day.  This inclusive event attracts athletes locally and globally, fostering a family-friendly atmosphere.  Originating in Wales in 2010, LCW has since expanded internationally to countries like New Zealand, Australia, Mallorca, Belgium, and the Netherlands.  LCW Yorkshire, located in Masham, anticipates a significant economic boost supported by a 3-year partnership agreement with North Yorkshire Council and Masham Parish Council, with potential for further collaboration. Year 1 of LCW Yorkshire expects 2,000-3,000 athletes and 4,000 traveling spectators, contributing to the region’s economy. The event also invests in local projects for lasting community benefits.

Key Info:
Swim: Grimwith Reservoir, 6th September – Choose between 1.9km or 3.8km distances
Due to the location the swim will be capped at 1000 athletes. Special parking provision will be provided onsite. There will be limited to no disruption expected. A full traffic management plan
will be implemented to control the access to the reservoir.

Bike: Start and Finish at Masham, 7th September – Pick from 56 miles or 112 miles.
The bike will be held on open roads. The bike day will be limited to 1000 cyclists. Whilst there will be no road closures in place there will be a large number of bikes on the highways. The
course will be comprehensive signed for cyclist and other road users. There will also be a large number of marshals in attendance.  The route is designed mainly on the quieter side roads to minimise disruption, but it will also show some of the area’s best features. Some of the bike course takes in some of the routes made famous by the previous major events.

Run: Start and Finish at Masham, 8th September – Options include 5k, 10k, half marathon, and full marathon.  The run day is the blue ribboned event. It has been designed to showcase the area, involve some local comminates and to provide the athletes with an attractive and safe course.
