Steam in Masham, then and now – Derek Rayner
A look at various aspects of the use of road steam engines in and around Masham through the years – particularly featuring the Atkinson family and going on to the preservation era and the somewhat modern times relating to traction engine rallies.
Derek Rayner is the President of the Leeds and District Traction Engine Club and since retiring from his ‘proper job’ as a Chartered Engineer on British Railways, he’s been involved with the commercial magazine Old Glory for some 20 years. He’s been owner of his Aveling & Porter steam roller WHITE ROSE since 1964; this 1915-built machine is celebrating it’s centenary this year.
