One of the greatest period dramas ever, Milos Forman’s film won eight Oscars including Best Picture in 1984. Adapted from Peter Schaffer’s play and set in 18th-century Vienna, the film centres on composer Antonio Salieri (F. Murray Abraham), who recognises the unique genius of Mozart (Tom Hulce) but even with that acknowledgment cannot help his raging jealousy towards the talented and foul-mouthed upstart. Two magnificent central performances and a fascinating script are at the heart of this masterpiece, which is laced throughout with Mozart’s music.
