We are delighted to host local artists Nikky Corker and Jane Redfern at the Blue Light Gallery. The exhibition runs until Friday 13th February.
Painting has been a huge part of Nikky’s life and still remains her passion. Every morning, Nikky plans her day through a series of doodles whilst eating her porridge at breakfast. Even her shopping lists are illustrated! Nikky’s years at Cheltenham Art College studying traditional as well as contemporary methods and mediums has allowed her to develop a style that is now recognised as her own. Her work reflects her attitude to life, looking for the humour and sharing the fun. Her harbour scenes are made up from sketches of individual houses or boats that she then “cobbles together in a little world of my own”.
Jane works with watercolour and mixed media and paints in her garden studio, taking inspiration from her interest in flowers and the countryside. Family holidays to Cumbria, Scottish Islands and Northumberland provide opportunities for painting the landscape, water, sky and the effect of the ever changing light upon them. She enjoys the flow and sometimes unexpected effects that watercolours can bring, particularly for her floral pieces and she also likes to add an extra depth of colour and texture by incorporating pastels into her impressionistic landscapes.
