Salaam (meaning ‘peace’) is a douuble bill of solo Tabla music followed by Kathak dance.
Salaam opens with a rare treat of solo tabla music by the world-renowned maestro Sarvar Sabri, whose intricate finger-work and rhythmic compositions in the “Ajrara Gharana” school leave audiences spell bound.
The second half displays Sonia Sabri’s distinctive personal style of Kathak dance accompanied with live music including melodious vocals by Shoma Dey. Sonia is acclaimed as the foremost Kathak dancer of her generation, with a precise, graceful technique, command of rhythm and repertoire, and enquiring approach to developing the artform.
