Sue is mainly a self-taught graphite artist having attended short courses organised by another Yorkshire artist, Mike Sibley. Sue prefers to use graphite and draw in texture, taking inspiration from the endless possibilities and challenges that graphite can offer. The humble pencil can guide the viewer through the picture using texture and shade instead of colour and the challenge is to do justice to the subject.
Taking time to look at the world around in more detail instead of relying on colour to tell a story has given Sue a greater understanding of the beauty around. The beauty of the detail is, hopefully, recreated in the drawings and encourages the viewers to look deeper, to discover for themselves the power of graphite.
Sue has exhibited in the Station in Richmond and this is her second time showing her work in the Blue Light Gallery, Masham. Between exhibitions she has been busy with commissions and developing her portfolio and generally learning more about the creative potential of Graphite
